Dojima-Ann in San Francisco

The food here is reasonable. The chirashi bowl was tasty enough, and I appreciated the additional miso soup and salad. The only thing that made it a little weird was the off smell that I noticed in the restaurant after I was sitting there a while. Wasn't sure if it was because I was sitting near the toilet or something, but a little off-putting...

Excellent place. Well prepared food at great prices!

I used to love this place. Been coming here since 2004. Their menus has mostly stayed the same all this time, but their portion size ans ingredients have gotten worse. It is still a decent place for a solid meal. I also feel their service has gone down hill. Their waitresses seemed frustrated and over worked. They forgot our order and never came by to refill our tea until we asked. The one that we asked seemed annoyed with us. Because they are in such a good location, there is always a line, from the moment they open. But I am sad and disappointed at how this place have changed.

Authentic Japanese food with both in English and Japanese language menu. This was popular for locals during the lunch hour. This met expectations and the quality seem to be on par with what I was hoping for.

Service from the waiting staff was fine, but the food was subpar. I'd ordered Salmon and Salmon Roe Don, and the Salmon was bad! It looked fine but you can smell it turning funky. The taste and texture was even worst.Not to mention the terrible attitude from the older man at the cashier. His attitude was unfriendly and he even threw my credit card on the counter after the payment was processed. 我欠你咩？🙄

Very quaint hole-in-the-wall, busy but fast! I only ordered sides - edamame, seaweed salad & green tea. All very tasty and very reasonably priced.

Been there 2 times now, food is just really good. I had the karaage this time around and was light tasting but lots of flavour and so juicy and good amount of crunch. Happy my coworker recommended this place.

My 5 or 6th time back! Value for money and v decent quality and in the heart of SF near union square. There are queues during peak hours of lunch and dinner but worth the wait... the set is less than 20 includes the main course salads and hot odon!! They have rolls and shasimi and various sushis but 1 of my favourite is the grilled cuttlefish!! Enjoy

Worst Japanese food that I’ve ever had, and the restaurant is actually run by a Chinese owner. The shrimp is over fried, thick bread surrounding the shrimp, and rice is missing. Most importantly, it doesn’t taste at all!! IT’S THE VERY FIRST TIME THAT I FEEL SUFFERING TO EAT!!

Decent food but with a surprisingly nice chiraishi. The taste of the rice is superb.

Probably the best value Japanese food in all of SF hands down. Their portions are very generous too. Highly recommend. Only problem is that they don’t have an AC so during some days of the summer it may be a little hot inside

Okay, but not great. I came here expecting an authentic taste, but the food was rather bland. The upside: despite being almost constantly busy, the service was friendly and the preparation time was relatively quick. Maybe that's why it was rather bland.

The food is fantastic and really worth the wait. Usually it does not take that long to get seated. Staff could be a bit more friendly though.

Decent Japanese restaurant. The salad dressing is fantastic. The food and presentation don’t really stand out, but still good quality.It’s priced quite well for being downtown San Francisco.

This place was small and cozy with friendly prices. The quality of the sushi/rolls were definitely subpar but we got decent amount of food for the price which I was content with. The service is also subpar but that doesn’t really matter because the price was friendly. I would have given this place one more star but I took it away because they put SO MUCH msg in the miso soup that I was falling asleep as I was eating my meal, and ended up passing out at home. I’m not sure if I was just really hungry or this place is really that good. I would probably not come back if I had other options.

Sushi Roll was a good size for the price

If you could give it 3 and a half I would. It's just not quite good enough for 4 stars. Decent but you can get quite a bit better sashimi close by for not a lot more.

I absolutely love this place, the chicken katsu curry is super good. Service was very fast, I got my ticket as soon as I was finished so no waiting around. The atmosphere is very cozy and right off the popular Powell street.

Easily the best Japanese restaurant in downtown San Francisco. The service is fast, the food is top quality, the sushi is perfect and the price is amazing value. I've been going here for over ten years and it's never been beaten by other restaurants serving Japanese food. It attracts mainly Japanese clientele and has long lines on weekends. A sure sign of good food, and you know what? The food is amazing!

if you feel in the taste of the food that the kitchen is too busy.. well.. that's not a good sign. there are better asian restaurant in the city. must say: haven't try the sushi though there...

If you are Asian, you’ll like it.Because most of japanese restaurant in U.S., they are just selling sushi. However, they give some local style food.

Great food on the sidewalk of SFO city where you find great food with servers that spoke very minimum Japanese (mainly Chinese) great style of Japanese cooking (Mexican chefs) and reasonable priced. Have the Katsu don (meal specials) and fried oysters deep fried to perfection.

Small Japanese restaurant with very well priced sushi specials. We had to wait in line for about 10 minutes late on Friday night and service was a bit slow but the food was tasty and sushi tasted fresh.

Best authentic Japanese udon near to the Union Square. They have good Japanese curry rice and Donburi as well. Not sure about their sashimi because didn't order them.

Ordered sushi combo and hot noodle with beef - and both turned out to be not worth that money. I'm sure that the parts of fish that used in sushi were cheap one. Even one piece was just a white part with full of fat. Hot noodle, althouth this kind of udon is hard to be not good, was not tasty at all. Will never visit this place again.

Food comes so slowly. If you want some Japanese food, I recommend to choose 'Tokyo Express' instead of this place. Very similar, but the menu comes fast.

Super happy about this find in a touristic area. Prices are sf standard and the food is fantastic. Service was very attentative. I have found my new lunch spot

Small hole in the wall but excellent for both what it is and also reasonable prices. Had beef curry which came with udon noodles and a salad along with a Kirin. Have had beef curry several times in Japan but you hardly see it in Japanese restaurants in the US so I had to try it. Tasted very good and exactly how I remember it. Nice choice for Japanese food

Excellent food and service at a great price

Japanese food and the feeling at this location is great. everyone at our table was very satisfied. had a friend come into town and she asked me to take her here again.

Very cozy place to grab some Japanese food. Generally not very crowded. May have to wait if you are with a large group. Service is spot on. The udon soups are really nice. Especially the curry flavored one. Enjoyed every bit of it. Tempura was excellent. Food is generally affordable. Would recommend.

This is a great hole in the wall Japanese diner! They have fantastic udon and donburi. I highly recommend stopping by!

I have been to Dojima Ann for several times and this place has never let me down. The food and service quality are good. Waitresses are friendly and always refill our water. The prices are also reasonable considering its location (San Francisco, downtown, few blocks from Union Square). The interior decoration are nice, too. Bonus point for me: Their Maguro Natto is tasty (Raw Tuna with fermented beans, though natto's smell could be too strong and bitter to some people). Overall, nice place!

The food is great! And quite a choice (besides sushi). The service may be slow and the smell of the kitchen may sometimes remind you of the broken .. toilet (which is clean and without smell, btw). But you definitely can stand all that, for that the food is that good! Also crowdy, so one may have to wait for 10-20 minutes.

Food came out super fast! Was really great. Kinda empty when I went there. There's a bigger room in the back I guess for parties. The waiter was very sweet!

The server was genuinely nice. Food was authentic and the fish was fresh. Definitely worth a visit.

1st visit. Definitely will be back again!I tried they gyudon, very authentic and yummy.Yup, exactly the same gyudon you eat in Japan. I was happy because usually most Asian food are already localized. Come off peak, the will be a line if during lunch or dinner time.

Edit: Today I had a different soup (Chicken and egg), and it was full of uncooked green onions and regular onions that kind of ruined it for me. Plus I'm still hungry.Original: Amazing traditional Japanese food. First time I try something this good! Price is reasonable.

Japanese style food. Tastes good. The restaurant is nearby Macy's which is easy to find. Small restaurant but we get there at 1:30 weekday there is no need to wait for seat.
